What does cryolipolysis or COOLsculpting consist of?
Cryolipolysis, born a few years ago, is a medical slimming technique from the United States. It fights cellulite and unsightly bulges and allows body contouring, thanks to a controlled cooling system.
Indeed, many studies and observations have shown that adipocytes are sensitive to cold. Under certain conditions, exposure to the cold of a bulge induces necrosis of fat cells, without damaging the skin or other tissues, which are less sensitive to cold.
Cryolipolysis treatment consists of the use of adjustable applicators that suck and cool the subcutaneous fat tissue in a targeted manner. The adipocytes (fat storage cells) die and are then gradually eliminated by a normal metabolic process via the lymphatic system.

The course of a session
01
Before the session
Beforehand, the doctor will have visualized the area(s) to be treated, determined the objectives of the intervention and given the patient a quote as well as the consent form. A clinical examination will be carried out and photos will be taken from different angles to allow the before/after results to be viewed during the follow-up consultation (6 to 8 weeks after the session).
02
During the session
A gel-soaked film is applied to the skin, then the applicator is placed on the area(s) to be treated (several areas can be treated simultaneously). Aspiration occurs, slightly unpleasant or sometimes painful for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, the cold transmitted by the device (-8°C) anesthetizes the skin and allows the treatment to continue without any discomfort being felt. The patient is thus in a lying position for 70 minutes. He can read, watch a video or rest, a drink available.
03
After the session
Removal of the applicator is followed by a massage of the area for about 5 minutes. The feeling can be “a little unpleasant”. Minor side effects may be observed, but no lasting side effects are noted.
